Welcome to Palette & Perspective — our new monthly journal of musings, inspiration, and design discoveries. This June, we’re finding beauty in the soft tones of autumn: golden leaves, muted skies, and the glow of afternoon light. From cozy interiors with roaring fireplaces to the pages of Emma’s just-launched third book, Style Your Home, here’s what’s shaping our design mood this month.

Nature walks
Our office is located in Mosman, on the beautiful North Shore. We are fortunate to be just a ferry ride away from the city and nestled in nature, with stunning cliff walks along Sydney Harbour right at our doorstep (can you imagine?!). These surroundings provide a perfect opportunity to clear the mind and seek inspiration from the golden-brown palettes of nature in autumn.
They don’t shout for attention but rather draw you in, inviting slower moments, softer textures, and layered living. This month, our studio has been leaning into that mood, designing spaces that feel grounded, lived-in, and warm.
Inspired by Firelight
When we think of coziness, fireplaces also often come to mind. We’ve worked on numerous homes with fireplaces and draw inspiration from cozy cocktail bars or historic pubs in the Rocks, where warmth is both literal and atmospheric. A well-styled fireplace can anchor a room, making it an instant focal point. If you’re fortunate enough to have one, here are a few of our favourite styling tips:
- Mix framed art with tactile objects like ceramics, candles, or small sculptures.
- Layer height and texture. Varying heights and finishes create visual interest.
- Less is more—choose meaningful pieces over clutter.
- Style the hearth. Think stacked firewood, woven baskets, or a low bench to soften the base.
And if you don’t have a working fireplace? Faux options or electric inserts still offer ambience and all the styling opportunities.

Emma’s New Book: A Must-Have for Every Home
We’re also thrilled to share that Emma’s third book, Style Your Home, has officially launched—and it’s already become a go-to reference in the studio this season. Whether you’re wondering how high to hang your dining room pendant light, what size rug will actually work in your living room, or how to breathe life into a blank wall with a gallery of personal treasures, Emma covers it all.
